RFID Educational Event Proceedings

On March 6, 2012, WLIC hosted an RFID educational event for producers who were interested in learning more about the technology.  Done in partnership with UW-Extension and UW-Madison College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, this event was held in DeForest, WI at the Comfort Inn and Suites from 9am until 2pm.  The event featured guest speakers, including a producer panel to help answer producer questions.

Below are 4 of the powerpoint presentaitons that were provided during the meeting:

Livestock Vantage LogoWLIC members felt strongly that animal identification pilot projects would help address specific questions producers and industry have about implementing an animal identification program. Regional and species differences require different approaches, and with that in mind, pilot projects were started.

Information about a private veterinarian using RFID tags for calfhood vaccinations in southern Wisconsin.

Information about a dairy producer using an electronic calf feeder.

Information about a dairy producer using RFID tags for weekly herd check.

Producers interested in implementing RFID on there farm need to be aware that before you buy anything you should do some homework.  The RFID Implementation Guide was developed to provide producers with helpfull tips to develop a RFID implementation plan.

Using information from the pilot projects, WLIC developed a cost/benefit analysis about using RFID technology on different size dairy farms.
